Punia was born in Khudan village of Jhajjar district in the state of Haryana, India. bajrang wrestling at the age of 7 and was Encouraged to pursue the sports by his father.In 2015, his family moved to be Sonepat so that he can attend a regional center of Sports Authority of India. Currently, he works in Indian Railways on the post of TTE (Travelling Ticket Examiner)
In New Delhi, India, in the semi-last bout, Bajrang dropped 3-1 to South Korea to the winner the bronze medal in the men freestyle 60 kg category.

In Budapest, Hungary, Bajrang received the bronze medal in the men freestyle 60 kg category by qualifying for the bronze medal bout through the repechage circular. There, he fulfilled beaten Mongolian wrestler with 9-2.

In 2015 Globe Wrestling championships. He fulfilled Mongolia who defeats him 10-0. Bajrang got an opportunity to contest in the Repechage round. His 1st opponent in the repêchage circular was the united states whom he beat 6-0 very easily. The next repêchage opponent was Georgia who set up a battle but was eventually overcome 13 to 6 by the Indian. Regrettably, he fell at the last hurdle, drawing the bronze medal bout 6 to 6 but his opponent Vasyl Shuptar of Ukraine scoring the last stage.
In 2016 Singapore, Commonwealth Championship, Bajrang win Gold Medal.
In Gold Coastline, Australia, the gold was won by him the medal in the men’s freestyle 65 kg category. He overcame Kane Charig of Wales by Complex Superiority to clinch the Gold Medal.
