  • Sakshi Malik is an Indian wrestler who born on September 3, 1992,and raised in a village called Mokhra, Rohtak district of Haryana.
  • She belongs to a patriarchal society, where the social norms for female child and male child have a huge difference in their lifestyles.
  • It was her grandfather, Badlu Ram from where Sakshi inspired by seeing him practice,  train wrestlers and coach people at his  “Akhada.”
  • since her parents are never a part from of any sport but they always support her to achieve her goals and look up at her to fulfill the requirement from training to her diet.
  • She started her training at age of 12 in Akada that has placed in Chhotu Ram Stadium of Rohtak.
  • Apart, the support from her family the society of her region where not accepting a girl to enter in wrestling filed, since she had to fight with the local boys as Malik belongs to a state where sports is not for girls
  • During her training with the coach of Ishwar dahiya they had to face protests from locals.

  • She completed her post graduation in Physical Education from Maharshi Dayanand University in Rohtak and currently working in Delhi division with Indian Railways in the commercial departmentand
  • the JSW Sports Excellence Program and also get promoted from senior clerk to gazetted officer rank after her bronze medal win at Rio.

Wrestling Career

  • In 2010, Sakshi Malik won her first bronze medal in the 58 Kg freestyle event at the Junior World Championships.
  • After her first winning, the ascertainment related to upcoming games became more sturdy  for her and that helps to win a gold in 60 Kg category
  • the 2014 Dave Schultz International Tournament and with that she won the bronze medal in the 60 Kg category in 2015 Asian Championships in Doha, Qatar.
  • She was unstoppable after that and finally the day came when she made India proud when Sakshi Malik defeat China’s Zhang Lan in the Olympic World Qualifying Tournament and  became the first female wrestler from India to win a medal in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
  • As soon as she returned home after winning the medal, she was rewarded with many prizes from India
  • Haryana Government where she rewarded Rs. 2Crore.  Now, she is gearing to bring home an Olympic medal in 2020 Olympics to be one of India’s main prospect.
